Urban Terror and bots/team killing/other lameness

Maybe I’m getting old, maybe I’m just nostalgic. But I’m a little confused about the point of something I encounter sometimes when playing urban terror.

I enjoy urban terror because when I was an undergrad we’d often host our own server and play nearly every weekday night for an hour. The server often had almost 20 to 30 people (according to my memory) . It was a lot of fun when you knew everyone playing, and although we often tried other games we usually ended up going back to urban terror. Eventually we moved out of the dorms and our school/social life didn’t allow for such games anymore.

Well now that I’m married and seem to have an hour or two free each night I like to join a server and play some UT. I’ve gotten a few guys from the dorm to join me and I usually have a little fun. Sometimes, though you encounter someone who just ruins the entire relaxing game and I never understand why.

First, what’s the point of using a hack. I understand using a cheat code while playing Sim City 2000, but when playing online in a game, where people can watch your screen to catch you cheating, why would you do it? They don’t really keep stats, there’s no pride in it. And although I’ve never done it, I can’t imagine it’s any fun. I mean you pull the trigger and run around letting the computer aim. Why would you do it? It’d be like playing tetris and instead of moving the blocks around you just held the down key and it did it for you. I don’t get it.

I also don’t get the guys who join a game and just spend the whole time killing their teammates. I’m going to assume these people are really young, although UT seems to have a fairly older crowd. There’s a lot of games out there that are flashier and more for the younger crowd. But every once in a while some guy will join and just spend the next ten minutes killing his teammates. What’s the point of this? There’s no challenge to it.

I just don’t understand sometimes, anyhow Bard Hall v Gilbert at 10pm!! Ah, the good old days.
